Food

Food is essential. While one might be able to get away with eating once every few days, you need water on a regular basis. And you should be eating at least once a day. If you live in a medium sized city, you might be able to find a soup kitchen. This will be a place that is usually associated with a homeless shelter and it provides a basic meal. Keep in mind that you won’t be the only person in need of food. You probably should get there early. When you have the money, buy a 1 liter bottle of soda, or juice. This is not normally suggested, but the bottle can be saved so you can have water in the future days without having to buy it. When you go to the soup kitchen, ask if they will fill your bottle up. I am sure they would.

Also, you would want to check with the department of welfare for SNAP benefits. If you are homeless, or living on SSI – you should qualify. The SNAP benefits will help you get food in your home, and if you don’t have a home, then SNAP will give you a small resource for drinks while you are out on the streets.

What I Do

First, I am fortunate enough to have a place to live. All of the food I buy from the grocery store goes into my refrigerator, or freezer. When I am not fasting (odd days), I will eat one meal a day. What I eat depends on which store I went to, and what food is available there. My SNAP benefits currently covers my food in its entirety. This will be because I don’t eat every day. If I was to eat daily, then I would have to spend cash for my food in addition to my SNAP.
