Can I Work?

Yes, you can, but there will be some limits if you still want to keep SSI. You would best to call Social Security and ask about how they will be affected if you work. There is a formula where they won’t count any resources you need to work. If the rules are still the same, they won’t count the first $50, and then they subtract 1/2 of your gross pay from your SSI benefit. Keep in mind, your net income is likely to be 75% of your gross because of taxes. You would have to figure out the costs based on what Social Security tells you, and make your decision then if working will be to your benefit. Also, keep in mind – your rent (if in subsidized housing), and utilities might be adjusted as well.
