Medicaid is insurance for the poor. It is designed to provide basic health insurance for those that can not afford to pay for insurance. The eligibility requirements vary from state to state, and some states may have a limit on how many people can be on the program. Also, some states may require that you choose a supplement plan which is the company that would handle your insurance. Medicaid is far from perfect, but when you can’t afford health insurance, it is the best solution.
What I Do
I am on Medicaid, and have chosen UPMC for my health plan. It covers most of what I need, but doesn’t do it all. They aren’t required to cover my shoes unless I have diabetes. There is no coverage for eye glasses, nor dentures (I received partials). Nonetheless, I am happy with UPMC when compared to the other options. I do not see myself leaving UPMC health plan.
